General and Civil Construction

FUNDING | Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ)

The Short Course program provides funding to assist with upskilling and cross skilling existing and unemployed eligible workers in the building and construction industry. Short Courses are individual competencies and skills sets designed to provide flexible solutions to workers wanting to update their skills and knowledge in specific, targeted areas.

This contract period, participants are eligible for eight (8) General Construction Short Courses and five (5) Civil Construction Short Courses.

General construction

Eligibility for the Short Course GENERAL CONSTRUCTION program

To be eligible for the program, individuals:

  • must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident of Australia or hold a refugee and humanitarian visa

  • must permanently reside in Queensland or be permanently employed in Queensland

  • must be an existing and eligible worker in the building and construction industry who has had a one month or more employment relationship with their employer. The working relationship can be built up through full-time, part-time or casual employment or engagement as a contract worker OR an Unemployed Eligible Worker who has been unemployed for a period of not greater than four (4) years

  • must not be eligible under the Apprentice Advance Plus program as:

    • a current active apprentice or trainee in Queensland as defined in the Act undertaking a Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship; or

    • an existing worker or unemployed eligible worker in the first year out of their Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship who must commence training within 365 days of the completion date recorded by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training administration system (DELTA); or

    • a cancelled apprentice or trainee who was undertaking a Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship that has been cancelled and are currently accessing State Government funding to complete their institution-based training

  • cannot be currently enrolled and participating in a Queensland secondary school program (excluding a school based Apprentice or Trainee)

  • cannot be a contracted trainer or assessor or existing worker of a Registered Training Organisation

  • cannot have previously completed the short course for which funding is sought

  • cannot have been previously funded under this program, with any RTO, for eight (8) short courses in the same contract period (CSQ contract year is 1 October to 30 September)

  • cannot have been funded by an Authority for delivery of the same training being undertaken as a part of this program

  • cannot be seeking a Verification of Competency or Determination of Competency services
